"Space is the primary organizing principle of the mind"

This is what the Society for Mental Space Psychology ( www.somsp.com) on their website. What does that mean?

Mental Space Psychology (MSP)

The International Laboratory For Mental Space Research writes:

"Everything that exists in the physical universe is somewhere in space. It is therefore to be expected that the fundamentally three-dimensional nature of everything is also reflected in the mind itself. And there is good evidence that spatiality is the main feature of our individual mental models of the world. In addition, the 3D imagination seems to be the basis of cognition and feeling itself – an idea that has the potential to turn psychotherapeutic practice on its head."

Mental Space Psychology is the theory that describes how space works in the mind.

The discipline of "Psychology of Mental Space" is the result of the research work of the Dutch social psychologist and researcher Dr. Lucas C. A. Derks .

What it's about

Suppose I asked you to close your eyes and think of your mother. And I would then say: Please point with one hand to the place where you can perceive the Mother inside her, then there is a place to which you can point, that can be in front of you or behind them, rather to the right or rather to the left, perhaps more up or down. Maybe even somewhere inside your own body.

If I were to ask you: Where do you perceive "playing football" or "cutting toenails", then you could probably also point to a point in space. And it feels kind of "right" that it's in this place.

What's behind it

Man is not a tree and has grown stuck to the ground, but can move freely in the landscape, so he must be able to find his way around space and, above all, get to where he can satisfy his life needs. Where can I get food? Where is there a safe place to rest? At the same time, he is a social being and must be able to differentiate between well-disposed and dangerous other individuals. How did we do it? The answer is in our brains.

My attempt at an explanation

This brain is a Navigation that is able to navigate us through all kinds of relationships and manage those relationships.
We not only have relationships with ourselves or other people or living beings, but also relationships with objects, activities, interests, groups of people, places, etc.
To manage these relationships, the brain uses its sensory systems. So see, smell, taste, hear and feel.
One of the most important sensory properties for differentiating the relationship categories is the Localization in space!
The place where something is represented in the mental space and the way in which it is represented there in a sensual concrete way determines the nature of the social relationship.

Problems are always the result of inharmonious (inner) relationships. Internally held relationships that are not harmonious cost energy and can be Stress and pain cause.

The Mental Space Psychology gives concrete indications of how these mechanisms can be used to regain inner peace !

I like to compare the functionality of the mental space with BIOS (Basic Input / Output System) of a personal computer, in which the basic control mechanisms of the computer are stored.
In the same way, taking into account the strategies of Mental Space Psychology, one can effectively influence (inner) relationships and thus change behavior.

I specialize in the principles of Mental Space Psychology and combine this "basic technology" with various methods of change work.
